10.2.0.4 probably not available before 2008

I blogged here that 10.2.0.4 was announced for 2007Q4. Well, I have rechecked metalink and the tentative date for Linux is now 2008Q1 😕

Lutz posted about some 10.2.0.4 Beta tests, I did not even know that some customers got beta version of the metalink patchsets 😈

I asked about this at Open World. Apparently, the release for the 10.2.0.4 patch got put back to clear the way for 11g: http://radiofreetooting.blogspot.com/2007/11/oow2k7-simply-cowbell.html

Hi Laurent,
I was @ CERN the other day and talked to the guy in charge for the beta testing with 10.2.0.4 patch.
And I have seen the patch in demos @ OOW.
Oracle VP Leng Leng Tan had even said that it would be out public the week after OOW, which was obviousely not the case.
I will let you know as soon as I know more.

Very interesting about 10.2.0.4, At several UKOUG events in the past few months the support update from an Oracle employee has mentioned that 10.2.0.4 would be out by the end of this year.

I also find it interesting that the workload capture will be available with 10.2.0.4, I wonder if this is causing the delay, in that this is clearly adding new functionality rather than fixing bugs, which is what I thought a patchset was meant to do!

Hi Jason,
yes, this would be new functionality made visible to us TEST BUNNIES which was there already.
The thing is more that this would add more value to 11g since it does not really make sense to be able to run a test workload only in the same release for testing. I think that 11g is not selling as they had hoped for and that it is a trailing fix to make it more attractive. I would not be surprised if they would even try to extend it to even older releases. There are a lot of customers who would love to know what happens if they migrate from 9i to 11g I think.

I see now “1H CY2008” for Linux x86_64, so probably summer 2008 ❓

I raised a TAR with Oracle at the beginning of December about 10.2.0.4 availability on HP-UX Itanium and I got the following reply:

Unfortuantely, We have no official informations about release date of 10.2.0.4 .
10.2.0.4 for HP Itanium is expected out end of MARCH 2008 , But i advice to recontact Support on January for confirmation.

Two weeks ago Metalink wrote in one of my SR:

on AIX platform the 10.2.0.4.0 patchset is currently scheduled for early March 2008.

But I do not believe it 😕
